Woman’s World” is the lead single from Cher’s first studio album since 2001’s Living Proof, CLOSER TO THE TRUTH. While Cher was still in the process of finishing her new studio album, the “Woman’s World” leaked online when a DJ played a demo of the song at a Michigan club, Cher revealed on her Twitter page that she was upset about the leak. After the full version was later leaked Cher and Warner Bros Records decided to give the single an early release by releasing it on Cher’s official website. Cher said on twitter, “We thought we had time, but (‘Woman’s World’) started popping all over the world!”.
On November 22, 2012 the “Woman’s World” was streamed online as a Thanksgiving present fans. The song has not yet been commercially released and Cher recently recorded the music video on January 22nd.

“Woman’s World” has received critical acclaim with reviews like “full of striking synths and a relentlessly slamming beat” and “kinda awesome and kick-ass and pure Cher”.

Gregory Ellwood of HitFix called it “a catchy track that will certainly make her fans happy and could get some gay club play”. He gave the song a B+ and stated that he was “just thrilled she can still belt it out like the youngsters out there”.

Keith Cauldfield from Billboard called it a “thumping dance single.”

However, Michael Cragg from The Guardian gave it a more mixed review, stating “Woman’s World aims squarely for the EDM jugular but manages to sound horrendously dated, which might not be all that surprising given it was produced by Paul Oakenfold.” He compared it to the “cheap” and “cheerless” songs on Alexandra Burke’s album Heartbreak on Hold but stated that Cher’s vocals were “engaged.”

The Closer To The Truth track listing is..

Burlesque: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is a soundtrack album featuring Christina Aguilera and Cher, the main characters from the movie.   The Burlesque album was realsed by RCA Records on 22nd November, 2010.  Cher’s two singles from the album are “Show Me How You Burlesque”, and “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me”.  These are Cher’s first original recordings for a commercial album in seven years. The album was met with positive reviews from critics with many praising Cher’s return to music with the track You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.  Diane Warren won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for Cher’s “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me”, while Aguilera’s “Bound to You” was nominated in the same category too. Aguilera received a nomination at the 54th Grammy Awards for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Visual Media but lost to the Boardwalk Empire soundtrack. “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” was also nominated in the Best Song Written For Visual Media category.  The only critical reception of the album was that Cher did not feature enough with only two songs.

“You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” charted on the U.S. Dance/Club Play Songs debuting at #35 and reaching #1.  Another milestone for CHER wil a number one song in every decade of her career.

If the fans who grooved to Believe still clamor for more, there’s little doubt that Living Proof will quickly achieve the same chromatic status as Cher’s new hair color. The multitalented entertainer is placing a safe bet on the fortitude of her latest incarnation as disco diva to support a second album of dance club tracks. Other pop femme fatales of late are experimenting with subtleties in rhythm and nuance, but subtlety is not one of Cher’s selling points. She’s been quoted as comparing “Song for the Lonely” to U2’s sound; indeed, through Cher’s discofied ears, there are brief moments where the track riffs on U2’s euphoric “Beautiful Day” and the two songs share a hopeful sentiment. “Love So High” and “Body to Body, Heart to Heart” throw the prerequisite Latin guitar and percussion into the mix, and the buzzing back beats on her cover of “Love One Another” (last heard on Dutch singer Amber’s self-titled release) make it one of the CD’s tightest songs. Cher’s vocals–a taste we’ve had more than 35 years to acquire–are strong, and her production team enhances her limited range with studio tricks. Living Proof will appeal more to Cher’s devoted fans than electronica purists, but her missive is relished by both sects: leave your worries at the door and get out on the dance floor. –Beth Massa

The lead single in Europe and Australia was “The Music’s No Good Without You”, while the United States received “Song for the Lonely”. “The Music’s No Good Without You” received major success in the UK, becoming a top ten hit. “Song for the Lonely” peaked at number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart (one of four songs from the album to top the U.S. dance chart). “Alive Again” and “A Different Kind of Love Song” were follow-up singles. “A Different Kind of Love Song topped the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play and chart on the Hot 100 at #105. Despite not being released as a single “When the Money’s Gone” charted on the Hot 100 at #112.

Cher won many awards including a World Music Award for Dance/Club Play Artist of the Year and Lifelong Contribution Award shortly after the release of the album. It became her eighth consecutive album to be certified at least Gold in the United Kingdom.

This album is the first ever by Cher comprised of songs she wrote herself! The material here is very personal and its sounds harken back to ’70s singer/songwriter styles. Cher has been quoted as saying the album is very ‘dark,’ yet very ‘Cher’ if you know her personally. The album was actually recorded in 1994 after she attended a songwriter’s workshop hosted by Miles Copeland, founder of IRS Records. There, she met and collaborated with reputable songwriters, Bruce Roberts and Pat MacDonald and came out with ten songs in five days! Shortly thereafter, she enlisted members from the David Letterman Late Show band and recorded these gems in one week plus two others, including a Sonny Bono penned song protesting the Vietnam War. This is definitely a project from Cher’s heart, doing it for herself without the restrictions of a record label and without regard to critics opinions.

Cher’s recording career has long taken a back seat to her acting pursuits, but with Believe she’s back with a vengeance as a throbbing disco diva. Although no fewer than five producers with dance pedigrees are along for the project (including Todd Terry, Junior Vasquez of Madonna fame, and Rob Dickins, who helped resurrect Rod Stewart’s ailing career), this is by no means a dance album in the ’90s trip-hop sense of the term. Rather, it’s a tour de force that summons mid-’70s images of strobe-lighted dance floors, sequined miniskirts, and writhing bodies. In “Power,” Cher wails, “Ain’t nothing changed much through the years.” Not a bad thing in this case, since Cher’s star was still rising in the steamy ’70s and ’80s with a string of hits that included the disco gem “Take Me Home” and the haunting “If I Could Turn Back Time.”

After the poorly-received previous record It’s a Man’s World, Warner Bros. talked Cher into recording a dance album. Cher began working on Believe in summer 1998 in London, meeting with producers Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling, who had previously worked with Rob Dickins; additional producers included Todd Terry (“Taxi Taxi”) and Junior Vasquez (who had to originally worked on “Dov’ L’Amore” but when he sent back his version from New York, it was rejected by Dickens, who decided instead to give the production of the track to Taylor and Rawling as well). Cher worked also with long-time collaborator Diane Warren (who wrote “Takin’ Back My Heart”) and covered two songs: “The Power” and “Love Is the Groove”. Furthermore she decided to introduce a remix form of her 1988 single “We All Sleep Alone” from her 1987 Cher album.

The “Believe” single was originally written only by Brian Higgins, Matt Gray, Stuart McLennen and Tim Powell and circulated at Warner Bros. as an unwanted demo for months. Mark Taylor said, “Everyone loved the chorus but not the rest of the song; As we were already writing other songs for Cher, Rob asked us if we could sort it out. Two of our writers, Steve Torch and Paul Barry, got involved and eventually came up with a complete song that Rob and Cher were happy with.”

During early sessions Cher recorded a cover version of “Love Is in the Air” that she previously performed a cappella on the talk show The Magic Hour in 1997. The song was mixed and produced by Junior Vasquez but it did not appear in the final cut of the album. Now it is only available on file sharing networks.

The album featured a new musical direction for Cher, with use of auto-tune, most notably in the title track. The album was influenced by Sonny Bono’s death in a skiing accident earlier that year. Believe is dedicated to him.

It’s a Man’s World found Cher singing ‘unconventional’ songs in a style more associated with the Deep South, rather than her more familiar pop and rock roots. The album also stands out for Cher stretching her vocals to head register for such songs as “One by One” and “The Gunman”, getting out of her comfort zone of her trademark husky contralto.

Cher recorded It’s a Man’s World in London in 1995. That same year the album was released all over Europe with “Walking in Memphis” as its lead off single. In the same year, it was certified gold in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry.

Love Hurts was released in 1991 and was the third and final studio album released by Cher for Geffen Records. The record featured production by Bob Rock and saw her continue to collaborate with John Kalodner, Diane Warren and Desmond Child. The album was recorded in late 1990/early 1991, during the first year of Cher’s relationship to Bon Jovi’s guitarist Richie Sambora. She dedicated the album to him and “every man that ever made me shed a tear”.

The album contained four covers: “Save Up All Your Tears” recorded in the late 1980s by Bonnie Tyler and Robin Beck, Kiss song “A World Without Heroes” recorded in 1980, and “Love Hurts” a remake of the 1975 version which Cher had previously recorded for her album Stars. This time the song was more pop/rock rather than a ballad. The originally version was released by Everly Brothers in 1960. The European version contains also the worldwide hit “The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in His Kiss)” originally recorded by Merry Clayton in 1963.

Heart of Stone was released in 1989 and was her second studio album for Geffen Records. As with her previous album Cher, Peter Asher, Jon Bon Jovi, Diane Warren, Guy Roche and Desmond Child performed songwriting and/or producing duties. Bonnie Tyler and Michael Bolton performed background vocals on the song Emotional Fire, which was an outtake from Bolton’s 1987 album The Hunger, as was “Starting Over” (Demo versions of the song exist in bootleg form). The album was recorded in late 1988/early 1989, during the third year of Cher’s relationship with Rob Camilletti, to whom she dedicated the album.

Heart of Stone reached number 10 in the U.S., number 7 in the UK, and by topping the charts in Australia, Heart of Stone became Geffen’s first international number 1 album. Her 20th studio album, it was the first in her career to go top 10 in the U.S. (though she would go on to have three more, Believe, Living Proof and The Very Best of Cher). It peaked at #10 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart for sales of 209,000.

The album was first released with artwork, and later re-released with more conventional studio photos. The original was a painting by Octavio Ocampo, featuring Cher sitting beside a stone heart, creating the illusion of a skull. The artwork was changed shortly after its release, making copies with the original artwork collector’s items.

Five years after the release of Cher’s last album I Paralyze and her decision to focus on a film career, Cher signed with Geffen Records (which would later absorb one of her former labels, MCA Records) and was rushed to the studio to record what would become her comeback album. The self-titled album Cher was released in the fall of 1987. The record was produced by Michael Bolton, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Desmond Child. Among the notable guest artists, Bonnie Tyler and Darlene Love were backing vocalists on “Perfection”.

After a series of pop and disco records, Cher moved to a radio-friendly rock sound, which helped her get back onto the charts. The album includes a new version of her 1966 hit “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”, Michael Bolton’s “I Found Someone” (originally written for and recorded by Laura Branigan), several songs written by Desmond Child and two by Diane Warren, who would go on to write many more songs for the singer. The album reached #26 in the UK, and peaked at #32 on the US Billboard album charts.
