Cher in good voice kicking off Aussie tour in Newcastle

Newcastle Entertainment Centre is a long way from the bright lights of Las Vegas or the star-studded Hollywood Hills but Cher gave thousands of fans a taste of the glitz and glamour on Wednesday night.

She kicked off her Australian tour in Newcastle and thrilled the capacity crowd with hit after hit – some her own, several by ABBA and one a nod to Elvis Presley in her rendition of Walking In Memphis by Mark Cohn.

She even sang I Got You Babe as a duet with Sonny Bono on the big screen. If it sounds cheesy, it wasn’t.

This was a grand spectacle of colour and dance with seamless set and costume changes. A visual feast that captivated from start to finish.

And then there was Cher herself, revealing her wit and self-deprecating sense of humour when recounting stories from the past relevant to her present.
