There was something in the air that night… or certainly today, when the huge assembly of cast members of Mamma Mia 2 (subtitled: Here We Go Again) gave not one, but TWO press conferences to talk about the much anticipated new musical.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the ABBA-inspired sequel complete with Dancing Queens and Kings aplenty including Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper returning as the star-crossed warblers, along with Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Julie Walters, Celia Imrie. Newcomers including Jeremy Irvine, Lily James and only living legend herself – Cher!
Speaking during a press conference, Cher said: “I was terrified! Because everyone had been together and also my character wasn’t very liked, by anybody. I was really nervous but all was great, and you [Amanda Seyfried] were adorable.
“Everybody was so nice to me. And then Meryl was behind a piece of scenery watching me do my number so that made me feel good after the fact, because I didn’t know it.”
“It was hard to go on a set where you were a stranger to everyone. I mean, I knew some of the people. Also to have this kind of mean grandmother kind of thing, and try to work your way into your story and be friends with everybody.
In this sequel to Mamma Mia!, Sophie learns about her mother’s past while pregnant herself. Discover Donna’s (Meryl Streep, Lily James) young life, experiencing the fun she had with the three possible dads of Sophie (Amanda Seyfriend). Sophie is now pregnant. Like Donna, she’ll be a young mother, and she realizes that she’ll need to take risks like her mother did.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will be released in cinemas on July 20 and fans have speculated that Meryl Streep’s absence from recent promotional activity is a clue that her character has passed away in the years since the first movie.
