Cher may play Nun in the Three Stooges Movie

Cher as a nun in new movie? Those legs might be wasted on the big screen!

While the Farrelly brothers (Dumb and Dumber) continue searching for the three actors to play Larry, Curly, and Moe in the big screen version of “The Three Stooges,” the directors revealed that they already know who they want to play one of the lead female roles.

“Cher is just the coolest chick ever,” Peter Farrelly told LA Times. “It’s hard to describe. You meet a lot of celebrities in our business. We’re not cowed by many of them. But Cher is bawdy, she’s fun, she’s cool, she’s lived a life, she’s got experience, she’s humble. It’s the humility that struck me the most. She’s not really a diva.”

The singer/actress had a cameo in the Farrellys’ “Stuck on You” back in 2003. At the time, the helmers spoke to her about a part in the “Stooges” film, which they were hoping to shoot next. At the time, she agreed.

If cast, Cher will play Mother Superior, the nun whom the Stooges terrorize. The plan is to begin filming this spring.

How can you all be so positive about this after Stuck On You??
    Unless I’m missing something.
I would much rather see Cher in a substantial movie.

    Matty,

Stuck on You is a comedic endeavor and I like that she took the role to make fun of herself. The movie was good. Substantial can often be confused with boring or uppity. lol

I would much rather see her in a movie that will have her IN IT for more than 20 minutes–she needs to be leading lady again. I would love to see her be in something where she doesn’t have to knock our socks off for less than a 1/3 of the film…need it to be so much more. =)

Yay to possibly seeing more of her in film. BOO to not seeing her as the lead more. lol

    Cheers!

People will see Cher as a joke if she does cheap comedy (what a relief I no longer hear about Drop Out!). The Farrellys are capable of great comedy but I think SOY wasn’t one of them. So that’s what worries me. Also Cher was so good in Mussolini that I think another drama would make her shine more than any comedy ever could. But hey if it’s a good project then she should take it by all means.

I’m playing devil’s advocate on this one, Matty…lol
Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t liked by people (and even by some critics). It also doesn’t make it a cheap comedy. I think she shines in ANY role–she can make a not so good script phenomenal by just being the incredible woman that she is. =)

And when people I know that didn’t like Stuck on You talked about it…they went, “the only good thing about that film was Cher and I don’t even necessarily like Cher but she rocked in that film.” So the idea that people will see her as a joke doesn’t truly apply. Not to mention, I don’t think she’d really care if people who aren’t true fans of hers called her a joke over one movie role.

    Just my two cents! =)

    I agree with all that.

I almost added to my last comment the part you yourself wrote about the fact that me not liking the movie doesn’t necessarily mean it was bad. But then I remembered that most critics I read at the time were negative too. I guess you and I received that movie from opposite ends of the spectrum.

Also I think we could have been 100% sure it would have been a “cheap comedy” if she had worked with that guy who did the unspeakable “Jackass” movies. And of course Cher, as a person, wouldn’t care but it would damage her career nonetheless.

As for Stooges I read that all the main (super famous) actors “dropped out” of it, isn’t that worrying? What made them turned down the movie if it’s a good one? Here I’m not defending my idea that the movie is bad, I’m expressing my concern.

As always I wish Cher the best of luck!

Oh now we bringing up what the critics said about Stuck on You? Have your forgotten how the critics also tore up Burlesque? Stuck on you was okay and yes Cher was the best part of that movie. I didnt think Stuck on You was that bad. I never listen to the critics when I decide to see a movie anyways.

LOL, Matty…no I did not enjoy the Jackass films…but for the reason that if I wanted to see a bunch of dorks needlessly abusing themselves I would start watching some of the guys at work more carefully lol. But as for Johnny Knoxville…the guy has acting chops. He has done a role that was decent alongside Katherine Heigel. It was still “stupid” humor but it was a cute movie IMO.

Actors turn down good roles ALL of the time–so that isn’t a surprise. Actors could be tied to another film, previously engaged to a different project, or might not like the filmmakers. It could also be an issue of money. Again, all speculation of course. 😉

But yeah…I just want her to be happy with what she’s doing and I will watch her in any role. =)

I’m going to sip on some coffee and watch a movie or something. Have a fab weekend!

    *cheers*

You have got a point here Jamesy. I don’t know how to explain it but even though I agreed with all the points the critics made about Burlesque (unoriginal plot, massive clichs) I still think they were overly negative about the movie. I guess it’s because they didn’t acknowledge the positive points of the movie while panning it for its weaknesses. I didn’t blindly listen to the critics (for SOY), their opinion and mine simply fell into line. But you’ve both swayed me a little about both movies. So thanks!

  23. I guess you guys didn’t see my comment! CHER IS NOT GOING TO PLAY A NUN!!!!! That’s not Cher’s type!!!! After all these years of being a Cher fan you guys should know better!!! Cher as a nun? Really?!? I dont think so!!!! You guys are too desperate to see her in something that you don’t care what role she gets!! RUMORS RUMORS RUMORS!!!! I’m pretty positive she will turn them down and if she don’t it will surprise me!!!

You say she wont play a nun, but Actors and Actress will sometimes play roles that are out of their norm, for a challenge. Some put on weight for roles Like Charlieze Theron for Monster, or change Gender like Hillary Swank for Boys Dont Cry.

Maybe because we can’t picture her as a Nun….well perfect. Cher might think the thought of her self a nun would be the total oposite of what is her norm and go for it.

Im sure there are plenty of people who say….”Cher as a Nun, year right, I gotta see this” If it works out It makes sense to me.

I think that Cher should take this role. She has turned down so many films that could have had potentially beneficial for her film career. Playing a nun is really getting out of character for Cher, and that is what being an actress is all about- playing diverse roles. Think of the difference in character between Tess, a former Burlesque performer, and a nun… that is a far stretch, and it would be great for Cher to take an unconventional and essentially “Un-Cher-like” role in a film. And all of us here know that Cher is an amazing actress, so i know that she would deliver if she took this part…. Cher, if you are listening, Please make more movies!! The cinema is bare without Cher

I personally think we are all so desperate for Cher to appear in movies that we are taking anything whether good or bad. I could care less how bad the movie is I just love watching her. Im ready for a new Cher cd allready. Ive aged another 10 years since she last made a damn cd. This is the longest span its taken her to record a cd Im wondering if it will ever be made.

I’m desperate too but I’m the opposite of you. I would rather not see her in any movies than see her in a bad one. That’s the road to Marlon Brando. So far she’s managed to escape that so here’s hoping she’ll keep it that way.
