Cher was supposed to be retired, she tried to say goodbye with her Living Proof Farewell Tour in 2002. However the temptation of a $100 million + contract for Las Vegas was too tempting. Now with a new Dressed To Kill Tour which has already reached most of America, Cher is planning to go abroad.
Mark Schulman, her longtime drummer, has a reasonable explanation to why Cher can’t say goodbye just yet.
“Here’s the chronology of that,” he said. “She really thought… she was old when she was in her 50s. Her biggest tour was in 1999, that’s when I joined the band. It went so well, then they’re like, well… let’s make another record. That was the first farewell tour, she thought, that’s it. Great, I’ll do this.”
But when Vegas called, she couldn’t refuse the money.
“The problem with Vegas is it’s really ungratifying,” Schulman said. “When you’re used to touring with your own fans and getting all that love and energy from an audience that’s there to see you — when you go to Vegas it’s different, half the people are fans, half the people are high-rollers.”
Schulman drummed the first year of Cher’s three-year stint at Caesars Palace, and remembered one show with six Japanese businessmen in the front row: one bored, one asleep.
“I think she’s like, ‘I don’t want this to be my end experience playing.’ She’s in such good shape and why sit around doing frickin’ nothing if you’re Cher? Everything about her just screams 20 years younger than she is. She’s not over. There’s a lot of money to be made and a lot of people to make happy,” he said.
The Dressed To Kill tour, he added, has been in the works since 2010. And like her previous jaunts, it’s been a success already taking in over $50 million.
“This tour is outselling Lady Gaga’s tour,” he said. “She’s an awesome lady and an awesome talent and should still be out there doing what she’s doing.”
Cher has now revealed she is planning to take her Dressed To Kill Tour worldwide after her US shows end in April 2015. Cher has plans to tour much of Europe (France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Netherlands and the UK), South America including Brazil, Mexico and even as far as Australia and New Zealand. The news of a possible World Tour, Cher European Tour, South American Tour and Australian Tour has international fans excited.
Cher World Tour Dates and schedule to be released later this year for performances commencing mid 2015.
