Cher’s Miami-Struck

Cher's house Miami

Oscar-winner Cher has put her waterfront house in Key Biscayne, Fla., on the market for $9.75 million. The 59-year-old entertainer bought the six-bedroom, eight-bath house in 2003. The 6,819-square-foot Contemporary house is about 10 miles south of downtown Miami and overlooks Biscayne Bay. It’s on Mashta Island, an enclave on Key Biscayne’s western coast connected to the village by a bridge, where actor Andy Garcia also owns a house. All rooms inside the three-level home have bamboo floors and bay views, and the property has more than 100 feet of bay frontage. Cher, who won her award for the 1987 film “Moonstruck” and who closed out her “Farewell Tour” last spring, will look for a property closer to Miami at some point, her broker says. The listing agent, Nelson Gonzalez, of Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell Realtors, says Cher is spending about $100,000 to repair trees, plants and lawn damaged in the recent hurricanes. The house itself wasn’t affected. Although Cher’s main home is in Malibu, Calif., she’s a longtime South Florida property holder. She sold a Miami Beach house in 2002 to Calvin Klein executive Barry Schwartz. Miami-area real-estate prices, including Key Biscayne, Coral Gables and Miami Beach, have kept rising. The median price for a single-family home there reached $371,200 in September, a 24 percent jump since January, according to the Florida Association of Realtors.
