Cancer victim’s CHER wish is fulfilled

Cher Cancer Victim

Tom Moore wanted a last hurrah, a chance to get away from the death sentence he’s dealt with all year.
The 53-year-old is in the last stage of pancreatic cancer, and he and his wife, Kay, thought a trip to Las Vegas would be just what the doctor ordered.
They’d celebrate Tom’s life and Kay’s 50th birthday. They’d hit the slot machines and poker tables, and make some memories with family members and friends.
And maybe, they thought, just maybe, they’d meet Cher. Tom, who lives in North Stafford, has seen the superstar in concert and owns all her albums.
“I’ve had a crush on her since I was a kid,” he admitted.
On a lark, Kay subscribed to a Web site to get contact information for celebrities. A few weeks before their trip last month, she e-mailed, asking if Tom could meet Cher in Vegas. She briefly explained his situation and sent a link to the Web site that chronicles his illness.
Kay hoped for five minutes of Cher’s time, but she and Tom hit the jackpot instead.
Cher’s agent called, offering VIP tickets to her sold-out show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
A few days later, the agent called again, asking if the couple would like to stay in a suite at Caesars Palace–on Cher’s dime. And, the agent mentioned, a limousine would be waiting for them at the airport.
As the trip drew nearer, the Moores got a package from the celebrity. It included an autographed photo book with images from her Vegas performance, a Christmas tape and CDs of the Sonny and Cher Show.
Once in Vegas, Tom and Kay had seats about 20 feet away from Cher during her 90-minute show, which Tom called “phenomenal.”
Then, they got to meet her backstage.
When Cher saw Tom, she rushed across the room, put her arms around him and kissed him on the cheek, saying she was so glad he’d made it, Tom said.
He was glad he was able to talk. He was afraid he’d just stand there, blubbering.
“I had to tell her I had a crush on her, that it was no different today than yesterday,” he said. “I told her she was beautiful, because, oh my gosh, she was.”
Tom and Kay Moore admit they were a little nervous as they checked into Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and told the clerk Cher was paying for their room. When they were asked for their credit card, a senior clerk stepped in and said, “This is on Cher.”
Her agents told the Moores to splurge, have nice dinners and charge them to their room, but the couple wasn’t comfortable doing that. They ordered room service only for breakfast during their four-night stay. Their bill totaled $1,400 and didn’t include four VIP seats to her concert, backstage passes and limo service to and from the hotel.
And the 63-year-0ld Cher, with straight blond hair and the figure of a teenager, had the heart to match her good looks, the Moores said.
She spent about 10 minutes, taking photos and talking about their trip.
She asked if Tom liked the show. She mentioned she had recently lost a good friend to cancer. She told Kay not to cry, when Kay got teary-eyed as she tried to thank Cher for what she’d done.
“She said, ‘Oh, we rock ‘n’ rollers, we never cry,’” Kay said.
Kay wishes they had taped their time with Cher so they could remember everything that was said.
Tom suspects he won’t forget any details.
“Time is running out for me, very fast, but having a wonderful family and friends–and to add this Cher experience–what more can a man ask for?” he said.
Cher didn’t provide a comment for the story because she wanted the focus on Tom, said Talia DeMartino, an entertainment coordinator with AEG Live in Las Vegas.
“Cher did this basically to do something special for a fan and does not want any recognition,” DeMartino wrote in an e-mail.
The Moores said meeting Cher–and renewing their wedding vows in a Las Vegas chapel–were the highlights of their much-needed vacation. For four precious days, Tom didn’t mention the word “cancer” or have to think about its devastation.
He found out in January that the pain in his stomach was caused by a large tumor on his pancreas. It’s wrapped around an artery and vein, and is too large to be operated on or treated with radiation, the doctors told the Moores.
Tom, who served three years with the Marines and 10 years in the Army, went through weekly chemotherapy treatments from April through September. Then, his numbers showed the chemicals weren’t working.
Hospice has been called in, and Tom is trying to finish what home improvements he can, with limited strength. He’s worried most about Kay, his wife of 23 years, and how she’ll deal with the loss.
“I’ve led a blessed life,” he said, trying to keep his eyes open through the pain and fog of medicine. “I’ve met the love of my life, I’ve traveled the world and served the greatest country on earth.”
Then, as Kay patted his knee, Tom added: “I’ve had a good life, a very good life.”

What to say?! ….. I cannot find words
October 8th, 2009 at 6:19 am
Awwwwwww!! Not all singers would do that would they, how nice of her, i always hear stories like this, where she takes time out for her fans, all entertainers should be like it!
October 8th, 2009 at 6:27 am
Daniel, ALL singers would do that, only they would make sure to do that in front of paparazzis and national television to make them look like nice. Only Cher chooses to remain low-key about this.

It.s official. We now know the name of the best movie of 2010. It.s called Burlesque and while it seemed like a good idea back when it just starred Christina Aguilera, now that THR says Kristen Bell will co-star as her rival, I.m ready to go ahead and pre-emptively award the 2010 Best Picture Oscar. The film is a musical drama directed by Steve Antin. In it Aguilera plays a small town girl who makes it big in a Los Angeles burlesque club. Remember Christina Aguilera.s Pussycat Dolls music video? Now imagine that with a scantily clad Kristen Bell as the club.s lead dancer, Nikki, a loose-cannon who spins out of control when Christina starts giving her competition. Presumably, whoever jiggles the most, wins. Of course it.s not all good news and this may hurt the film.s best picture chances: Cher has already been cast

I hate that article. Cher is an Oscar winner, and the moron who writes that crap article says she could hurt the film’s chances? Go get a life.

Cher what a truly wonderful and warm hearted person you are!!!! This poor guy has given so much of his life for his country and done his best to be a wonderful husband. To make the last however long this man has, so memorable is a truly spectacular act on your part. Unlike so many of the ‘stars’ out there, u have no wish to be splashed all over the front pages of the newspapers and for that you are to be wholeheartedly commended. Cancer as we all know, is just about the worst thing anyone can be diagnosed with and this poor guy has had just about the worst diagnosis with it. His poor wife is going through pain alongside him trying to be there for him. This trip and your actions must have given them both just a tiny little bit of peace and respite for the awful road they have ahead of them and are enduring now. This is precisely why I have been a fan of you since I can remember (and I am nearly 62) and makes me proud to be a fan. Best wishes and much love. Jan x United Kingdom

CHER, if you visit this site, and read these comments…..You are an amazingly warm, sincere, talented, gorgeous and special human being! I’ve been a huge fan since High School, and my Mom had your first album in 1965. My Mom has been wanting to see you perform live for almost 40 years!!! I took her to see your show on 26 Sept 2009 in Las Vegas. It was AMAZING. I’ve seen you at least 10 times in concert, and seeing your show with my Mom, was a real treat for us both. I hope you continue signing, acting and being you, for another 40 years. You are a blessed and beautiful person!!

Julianne Hough is Burlseque-ing with the stars.. The country-music-singing former Dancing With the Stars pro has joined the cast of Burlesque, a musical about a young small-town singer (Christina Aguilera in her big-screen debut) who becomes a star at a Hollywood burlesque club owned by Tess (Cher). I’m told Hough, who began rehearsals this weekend, will play a fellow dancer. Sources insist this is no Showgirls redux… “It is not about g-strings and pasties,” one source says. “It’s about female empowerment. No one is ever in lingerie. The film is sexy, but there’s no stripping.” Just last week, it was announced that Kristen Bell has signed on to play… »

thank´s Miguel for this inf.!!! I think it´ll be a very sexy cool movie..
October 13th, 2009 at 4:44 am
No one is ever in lingerie? what a shame! i was hoping to see cher in lingerie lol
October 13th, 2009 at 8:27 am
LOOL Daniel !
I’m glad this isn’t going to include nudity because then everyone would be looking at Christina, plus it would lower the quality of the movie. Now we know for sure the movie is going to be about acting which will give Cher more of an opportunity to shine ! I so want to see her in more movies. And I do hope she’ll finally be able to make that movie she’s been talking about for decades (The Enchanted Cottage).
October 13th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Ho Matty…I agree with you…but I think “The Enchanted Cottage” it won´t never happened..,sad…but,it´s true,Cher want makes this movie for more than 20 years ago…and the producer that had the right for the movie dont´gonna give for her…,

This is a fantastic story! Tom is a very lucky guy and I wish him and his wife the best. With so much negativity the press puts out there about celebrity’s, it is so nice to read something like this.
Cher, you are one of the best!!
