Of three terms that connote a diva (temperamental, egotistical, difficult), Cher identifies with just one: egotistical. The singer and actress, who has repeatedly reinvented herself as a performer since the 1960s, told Benjamin Svetkey in a 1999 interview for Entertainment Weekly that her ego is a necessity.
“Well I spend so much time having to think about myself and so I’m really self-centered,” Cher told Svetkey, “which doesn’t make me completely oblivious to the things that are happening around me. It just makes me more conscious of myself than is healthy and that I would like to be. That’s just the way it is.”
The interview with Cher is the latest conversation re-imagined by Blank on Blank, as part of its project to bring celebrity interviews to life through animation. The singer opened up about her struggles with dyslexia, revealing that she can’t read music.
“I just hear it,” she said. “But I’m better with lyrics. I have kind of a photographic memory because of it. I can read something and pretty much get the feeling of it the first time.”
Despite being “pretty intelligent,” Cher said her severe dyslexia prevented her from enjoying school.
“School was pretty much an impossibility for me,” she said.
Regarding motherhood, Cher said she didn’t think of herself as the best mom, but that it was important to let her children be who they wanted to be.
“I’m a cookie decorating mom,” she said. “I don’t bake them, I decorate them.”

My comment is short and sweet and right to the point. In the 40 plus years that I have been a true die hard Cher fan, one thing above everything else ALWAYS stands out in my mind and heart about her and it is this. The most respect that I have always had for her is her honesty. No human being can exaggerate or even lie, and have the ability to remember those words from 1960 whatever right up to mid 2016. How many times over the years have you heard countless people ask Cher questions that she’s been asked millions of times, and her answers are never even a slight clash to something she said some time previously? When you tell a lie the drawback is that you must remember that lie so that you don’t let totally different words come out of your mouth at another time. Cher is interviewed, answers the questions, and then just moves forward with her life. No stress there. Why??? because she’s already told millions of people truthful stories or truthful answers to questions. I have the highest respect for that. If she’s asked something that she doesn’t want to talk about she simply says so. To me that makes her even more beautiful than I believe that she is already. What she has, she earned. Yes I do believe that Cher will outlive cockroaches! (lol). Why??? Because she’s stronger than they are. And living in a world with so much turmoil, I thank her for dedicating her life to us (her fans) who with all her heart….she loves more than words could ever describe. Looking forward to new music, and looking forward to Cher’s life on Broadway. Now give yourselves applause too! Why? Because Cher fans are the greatest people on planet earth.
